&lt;strong&gt;How harnesses work:&lt;/strong&gt; The harness is the software interface you use when you want to use the model: Claude Code or Codex, for example. You want to learn how harnesses work, what they do behind the scenes, how to best manage your work sessions, what context is, when to compact it and when to clear, how to keep the agent on track (aka steering).&lt;/li&gt;

They want their custom tooling to feel unique. They want you to believe that the magic is in their ecosystem and special only to them, so you won't switch to their competitor.&lt;/p&gt;
