&lt;strong&gt;First, I learned the true shape of a single request and an entire coding session… and it's simpler than I expected.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I saw exactly what was sent with every turn, the way messages between the agent and me stacked up, and the tool calls in between.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li style="padding:0 0 0 1em;margin:0;margin-left:1em"&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;Second, I realized how much hidden token waste gets bundled in every request.&lt;/strong&gt; And it gave me a healthy level of context paranoia.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Skills, MCPs, even certain configuration settings were all stuffed into every request in every coding session.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li style="padding:0 0 0 1em;margin:0;margin-left:1em"&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;Third, I realized how &lt;em&gt;small&lt;/em&gt; the harness is.&lt;/strong&gt; It’s mostly good old-fashioned loops, but those simple loops can do a lot.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p style="margin:1em 0;font-family:-apple-system,BlinkMacSystemFont,'Segoe UI',Roboto,Oxygen-Sans,Ubuntu,Cantarell,'Helvetica Neue',sans-serif;color:#2d2d2f;font-size:16px;line-height:1.5"&gt;This exercise was more than worth it. And I think that most people using these tools should do the same. It turns out the mechanics are pretty easy to understand, and that knowledge is power.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="margin:1em 0;font-family:-apple-system,BlinkMacSystemFont,'Segoe UI',Roboto,Oxygen-Sans,Ubuntu,Cantarell,'Helvetica Neue',sans-serif;color:#2d2d2f;font-size:16px;line-height:1.5"&gt;When you learn how the system really works, you can start tuning that system to your needs. And that's how you start taking control.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="margin:1em 0;font-family:-apple-system,BlinkMacSystemFont,'Segoe UI',Roboto,Oxygen-Sans,Ubuntu,Cantarell,'Helvetica Neue',sans-serif;color:#2d2d2f;font-size:16px;line-height:1.5"&gt;But that firsthand experience is vital. I "knew" intellectually that this is how it worked; I read about it. But it didn’t really click until I did it myself.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;li style="padding:0 0 0 1em;margin:0;margin-left:1em"&gt;Skills and MCPs being referenced regardless of relevance.&lt;/li&gt;

Even when I wasn't using them.&lt;/p&gt;
